When to split test? (Start of site? Months after launch)

I have a site I am in the process of launching that will be set up to get people to sign up. My small incentive is that they will be entered in our monthly drawing.

When I do launch the site I am two designs. One has video and one doesn't. I just want to see which site converts more.

Is this something I should right out of the gate?

Anything else I should change to see if it increases conversions when I split test?

    Thanks guys!

You are launching a new site and want to split test it? Honestly, unless you are buying a ton of traffic to it don't bother until the site has been running for some time.

I do a ton of split testing (5+ tests running at any given time). You first need to establish some baseline data for your website, which is hard to do when it first launches.

I would wait at least 2-3 months after launching the site unless you have a big ad budget to buy the traffic.

Agreed. A/B and multivariate testing are difficult to do without a baseline of comparison (as your traffic should be steadily increasing from the marketing you do). I think the best option with this would be to launch with whichever you/your friends/your family seem to prefer, and move to testing when you have a decent amount of traffic down the line.

I think you should wait for at least 3 to 6 months after the launch. In this period, you need to try all the ways to
promote it so that you can get some traffic for it.And then promote it fiercely.

Once you see what you can reasonable expect as a steady stream of traffic feel free to go ahead... like was mentioned earlier havign a baseline to compare to is what yuo really need to have in order to start split testing.
