When To Send a Newsletter - Let AdSense eCPM Show You Which Day!

I have a huge community forum and have always wondered which days of the week are best to send my newsletter.

There are two main schools of thought:

    1) Send when most people are online (busy times)
    2) Send when least people are online (slow times)

Each theory has pros and cons and I won't regurgitate them all here.

I decided to try an experiment. Most of my site revenue is from Google AdSense. I ran a report on the eCPMs for my site over the past year. I then did some Excel magic (date formatting and pivot tables) to show me my average eCPM for each day of the week. As I expected, my eCPMs were higher over the weekend, and much more so on Saturdays. My reasoning, even before seeing the data, was that in my niche fewer people are online during Saturday, so the ad inventory remains the same, but publisher inventory tends to drop off. Same demand, less supply = better rates.

I sent out a newsletter today and my eCPMs are on average high, but what's more exciting is that I'm going to break my all time daily revenue record!

I'll probably send out all my newsletters on Saturdays from now on for this niche.

Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences on when you send out newsletters and why.

Getting more visitors when your eCPM is high is a good idea. :)

Does anybody else have favorite newsletter days? What other metrics are peeps using to determine when they send out newsletters? I'm guessing open rate is going to be a pretty important metric, no?
