When to go from Free to Paid?

I have been curious to how the directory owners make this decision. I am considering changing my directories from free to paid and the only drawback seems to be traffic. Having less submissions would cut down on the time involved which I have been getting 150+ submissions per day now for the past week.

When is the time right to go from Free to Paid?

I agree, even a small payment will discourage a lot of low quality submissions and give your directory more kudos.

 

You must have had an objective in mind when you decided to accept free links, so you should switch to paid when you have met that objectove or realised that it is not achievable.

In my opinion you should go paid when you first make 25$ with your free version its not over yet an0n

 

absolutely agree! start free or paid, don't change mid way! but then most directory becomes paid with higher PR!

 

but i guess he may also be asking for those that are already free.... i guess no time is better than now or after a PR-upgrade. Start slow and you won't get such a big transition to manage

 

Charge when you feel that the value proposition of a listing justifies a cost.

yes if his pr get high then its going to be a worth deal as its going to benifet both site

Announce your directory as free in DP for 6 hours or one day

Then turn into paid very next day

 

Keep the charge maybe just 1$ or 2$ for submission and then turn to higher value laters.

A small charge atleast keeps spammers away..
