When submitting to a Directory do you factor in who owns the Directory

    or

Do you submit regardless if the Directory meets your evaluation

    or

Could not care less about either, just submit

    Thanks

Please vote on the Poll :)

With so many QBC directories popping out each day, the owner is now really the main deciding factor for me.

Definitely, I usually search to find out if the owner is credible so I can ensure my listing will not disappear after 1 week.

Building relationships with your customers is a priority in this business as well as in other fields.

well, it is hard to know who the owner is if the site is wellknown but the owner is not in DP.

I will not care who the owner of joeant is, for example

    well

lets see like this ... when i submitted to forplex directory - its a PR 4 site

i submitted my site there because i kno Pete is promoting it heavily and its well worth it.

Than Same thing with Aviva ... i mean why would you pay 34.95 for a Pr 4 subpage link ? where there are tons of other sites are there.... because Jeff is not an unknown nobody who picked up an expired domain and set up a directory and the PR will fall... i submitted because Jeff's PR is strong and he is promoting it heavily and working hard so in my decision ... owners did matter :)

It really depends on whether it's a free or a paid link. For free, just submit and forget. For paid, more research is usually in order, and that will often include who the owner is, as well as other factors such as SEO friendliness, quality, and the reputation and longevity of the directory.

Can I add one point to what is developing into a very interesting thread

What does not matter is where the owner comes from in the World or operates from :)

What does matter is who the owner is

Example we went to submit to a PR6 Directory today with an unknown owner we then have to do a background check, what did we find
    Expired domain PR6
    No other pages with PR
Paid Regular & Feature Links expensive too
    No Back Links

Summary 15 minutes wasted on background checks need I say more

It does matter a lot who you are dealing with when you stand to lose 100USD we would have spent on that site today

Absolutely it matters, If you are going to pay for a listing, you will want to "trust" the webmaster not to cheat you.

The owner does not matter to me. My deciding factor comes from the research as well. If I check a directories stats and I see that they are not really doing anything to push the site, then I would'nt care if the directory is owned by Donald Trump or Paul Allen. Good stats = payment from me.

    Hello...

If i dont care for the webmaster or owner.... then he doesnt have anything coming from me...
as i could really care less about his directory or its PR.

I dont help build those who step on my toes or are arogant and have nothing
better to do then brag about how much better their directory is compared
to others when it really offers no value to anyone and the price is so high no one can afford....

I see everyone for who they are more so then what thier directory offers....
hey just being truthful is all....:p

    thx

Well, if I would be submitting to a paid directory, I would research on the owner because as said already I don't know my listing to be disappeared after a day or a week.

    For free directories, who cares?

The factors I use to decide whether or not to submit to a directory are:

    - The owner

If the owner is legit and has a good mind, the directory listing is most likely going to increase in value.

    - The branding

The domain, the logo, the concept, anything that I believe will go far, I want to be a part of.
