When should we expect to see the effect of backlink?

    Hi there,

I have just ordered a few pr4 - pr5 backlinks for my site. I am wondering when the backlinks will be shown on google (site:www.mysite.com)???

and how do I determine the effect (not just traffic, but pagerank and ranking on search engine) of the backlink?

    Is there anyway to know?

I think you cannot 'measure' effect of individual backlinks.
But it effects as a whole. :)

yeah i agree with mong, they count as a whole.

if u want higher seearch engine ranking go for general SEO techniques.
If you want a higher page rank build backlinks etc

Though I can't answer your questions, but I can tell your my own experience.

I launched www.hkhangfong.com in September this year, and first I just post in forums like DP, sitepoint, v7n, etc, and I can get about 20 unique visitors per day. Started at medium October, I started submitting to directories, and daily directories submitted to was about 30, and at the end of October my alexa rank was jumped from 2183639 to 1369720. Then I went for a business travel for 15 days, and started submitting from medium of November, with a daily submission of 40 directories. Yesterday, I checked the alexa rank, it's 407393 now, and one week ago, it's started that my site got visitors via google. Next week, I will start submitting articles to any pages I can find.

So keep submitting to directories, and sooner or later, you will get visitors from google.

    Hello
So if I understand you correctly the backlinks do not really help so I should just keep submitting articles?
    Cheers

Nobody knows if Google will every show those links, they are currently just showing a selection of your links. (link:www.mysite.com is the correct command to use :))

Relevant links are very effective for rankings.

For example if your site is about web hosting and you found page devoted to webhosting and placed your link with anchor text 'web hosting' effect will be better then simple link from directory.

You really think ranking on Alexa is completely irrelevant? I would think that jumping from past 2 mil to above half a million would be pretty important.

Or are you saying that ranking higher on Alexa is simply indicative of ranking higher for your search terms on google, having more traffic, et cetera... (i.e. the stuff that matters)

Do I have the right idea?

Well...I mean its a tool...that gives you an indication...but its far away from perfect...and they who look to Alexa when buying a website can make a hard mistake...

I can tell you about my experience....sometime...we have been in a 70.000 position...then 6 months after....we received 40% more of visitors but Alexa dropped suddenly to 120.000!!!

Alright, I see what you are saying.

Basically, it is what it is, and it isn't really very valuable or useful.

Jumping a million on Alexa does not mean much. I think a better example would be to give your jump in daily traffic according to any sats that you analyse.

Alexa provides information on the web traffic to other websites. I'm curious about what nowares said that Alexa only count IE traffic with their toolbar...as he ask is it true??

Were your directory submissions free or paid? I've submitted to over 100 directories this past month using the free option. I have seen no results so far, probably because my submissions are still under review.

To what do you attribute the quick response to your linking efforts?
