When picking a domain name whats more important to you

When you are trying to think of a new domain name, what do you consider first-

    The extension?
The memorability of the domain name?
The keywords in the domain name?

    Anything else?
I just register domain names all the time and usually try to find ones with keywords in it and was wondering if I should be taking a different approach..

    I am a snob, I don't buy anything unless it's .com

I am pretty creative so I've always gotten the domain names I wanted. They all are memorable, they all make sense gramatically and they are all .com

.com or possibly .net, must convey what the site is actually about, or be a brand. Keywords only if they make sense strung together.

the exception to that rule is when you are interested in a country specific website/topic, then you can forget about the .com if the country extension is a better fit.

I have built a site with .net because the .com was taken by a Chinese company, and I can see there was one instance of confusion already because someone mistook it as a .com. I registered a longer domain name that has a .com attached to it, but am wondering what makes more sense, especially for a site that is new - to build the original brand under .net and have the .com around to help people who might find the site via search engines, or try and rebuild the brand around the .com address and let the .net quietly fade away?

Try to end up with a dot com. I like the sound to .org and .net, but (in most cases) the average user heads for a com.

Also when a friend tells me about a site, and i cant quite remember the url, i just type what i remember and .com :).

All of my domains are .com

After that I go for related easy to spell, easy to remember key words... or one key word with a popular word such as a color or animal.
