    G'day,

I have been guilty of this a few times, Ok quite a few times.
You find a Niche with weak pages so you go after it. 1-2 days later the results are ready so you run your launch program and a few days later its on the front page. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

However Upon Not seing that much traffic you go to google keyword tool and find out that 200 people WORLD WIDE are searching your keyword each month. DOH!

When enthusiasm takes over take care, Pinch yourself and do some research, the niche may be empty for a reason.

Ok who else is gulity of this? I know I am not the only one to have Number 1 rankings that get 1 visit a year.

Yes, definitely happened to me. I chalk it up to a lesson learned usually. The site usually ends up making a few bucks but nothing what I'd imagined. lol.

Been there. I found sites like wordtracker weren't giving me very accurate information too.

Why would you launch a site prior to proper keyword analysis and traffic analysis in the first place? Your just asking for a kick in the butt. Always used the Google Adwords Keyword Tool & Traffic Estimator prior to putting time into development of a specific site for a specific set of keywords. Good lesson learned in my opinion.

Yup - done that but only on sites that I wasn't planning to make money with in the first place. Ya know - just sites for fun and hobby sites.

Having said that, I've make a fair of amount of "accidental" money out of some of these because I almost always slap in some AdSense or an affiliate ad or 2, reasoning that if the site can at least pay for it's own domain registration over a year it deserves to stay "alive" and sometimes (just sometimes) you can stumble on a nice little earner that you weren't expecting.

I'm starting work on a paleo-anthropological site related site this weekend (I have weird hobbies and interests :). All the keyword tools choke when I try any research - like NO searches EVER - but I'm still creating the site because I have some information regarding a recent discovery that will be VERY interesting to a small group of people regarding the origins of the first true Homo sapiens.

It will be very easy to get #1 rankings for a lot of terms but I honestly don't expect to make and money out of it...it's a true labor of love - but who knows... there is always a possibility that it could make some extra beer money every month.
