Ok correct me if im messing up but when i comment, im basically putting the name of my Blogger web page name into the comment name field. Should I not be doing this?
Its really not complicated, look here. Theres a name field, an email field, and a website field. Try and guess which goes where - you need to provide your website, your name and email address...
Many 'respectable' blog owners disapprove keyword spamming the name field. Even so, I use Webstractions in the name field and sign the comment at the bottom with 'Ronnie'. Have never had any problems getting a comment through. Perhaps it may be that most of my comments, are well thought out long-winded essays that have real bearing on the blog post. Rule of thumb: If the blog owner allows you to post a keyword spammed name along with your short 6 word comment, then do not expect much link value or traffic from your comment. In essence, the blog is already filled with unrelated spam and will be judged accordingly when it is analyzed.
Vic: Ok, I know I have a name, email, and web page field. But do I put a name like stevewrightaz or is it ok if i put a name like "how i got my engineering job"? Also, a reply without a condescending tone would be sufficient. Everyone else seems to be able to do it perfectly.
I have used a short keyword instead of my name when commenting on some sites and never been not approved. [Even on good sites] But i had a genuine interest in commenting and the comment was meaningful.
lightless actually has given some good advice. You should concentrate on writing a good and useful comment that adds to the value of the blog. If you do that you will be much more likely to have your comments approved regardless of what you put in for your "name". However, in my opinion entering something like "how i got my engineering job" as your name will greatly increase the odds that it is rejected, while simply putting "Engineer" probably wouldnt cause any problems. Personally I would reject a comment that had keywords as the name. In fact I think the whole idea of building links by blog commenting is not a good idea. Spend your time and efforts in other areas (Specifically quality content) and you will see better success.
Well it depends. Go find your mom. Get your birth certificate from her. Does it say Name: How I got my engineering job? If it does, then yeah you're good to go. If not, best to use something else. Its hard to talk to spammers normally. I tend to revert to talking to their mental age
Well thanks for the advice everyone. Pretty helpful. Ill just start using my real name when i comment. Vic, youve been really helpful. I can only hope Im as cool as you are someday. </sarcasm>
Bbau01 is female, and by spam I mean using their website name, so my whole post leads to. It's hardly a genuine name when one writes "SEO Services" - that is what I mean. If I see ppl using thier keywords in the comment field [which you do see a fair amount of on non-spammy blogs of certain niches] then I will too. And I derive [small amount] of traffic from doing this anyway - so I would not say it is useless, at least for me. But if I go to a blog and everyone is using 'John, Luke, Tom" etc - then I will use a name..
If possible we all want to insert keywords instead of using own name, but the thing is that it will probably won't get past moderation stage. For those which has automatic approval for the comments, will also got deleted after some time when the blog owner found out about this. So in a nutshell, in order to be safer so that the comments stay there, I will just use my own name instead.
How about using "Name @ Blog Title" or "Name - Blog Title"? I've done this a few times on blogs where the owners knew my blog, so they approved my comments. Do you think this would work on other blogs, or will it be considered spam (even if the comment was genuine and related to the post)?
If you do it on my blog I'll consider it spam. I assume most people would do the same. Unless you know the blog owner I wouldn't even try that.
It could help for SEO (for Google) if the blog is made do-follow. People still do this because Yahoo and other search engines consider even nofollow links, so each comment can get you a backlink in Yahoo.
