    Hi all

On the BBC five live radio show the last few days there has been a big debate over the P word which i will not type out here but so you all know what im on about it is used to mainly offend people of Asian origin.

The question is when is it acceptible to use the P word.

Personnely my view is NEVER wether it be in a joking way or a racist way as i think it is totally offensive to asian people and im white before people ask. I have lots of asian friends and would bever dream about using this word in conversation with them.

Some people think its ok to use it if asians are using it to call each other, and others think its ok for white people to use it in a joking kind of way.

What are your thoughts about it.

I dont mean to offend people with this thread im just wanting to get peoples opinions on the subject.

Apparently I have no idea how to insult Asians properly, cause I havent a clue what the P word is.
Did you maybe mean Avians? If I'd called my Conyer a "Parrot" he'd have killed me.

    Paki?

I know some people use it to generalize Asians, and some people get offended by it.

But what is the difference between Paki, Scot, American, etc?

The number of people here that are drawing a total blank on what word you mean indicates it isnt universal.
What passes for a slur in one place doesnt in the next. Far as I knew, "Paki" meant someone from Pakistan.

Why should the word be considered more offensive than Yank, Scot, Brit, Kraut, Aussie or Kiwi?

I think there are too many over-sensitive people around these days. Political Correctness is a tool used by the establishment to control what we say and therefore how we think.

Technically it's an abbreviation. Some may use it derogatorily, some may not. It's too simplistic and unrealistic too debate the moral connotations of a word, because at the end of the day, a word is a word. Nothing more, nothing less.

^^^ right on. People who get offended by words are usually very very stupid people. I don't care what the word is. I actually say the word more around them to piss them off when it happens.

I call my friends nigs, ya know why? Cause it's a damn funny word and it offends stupid people, it's 2 birds with one stone really.
