I've been reading that Google just went through a major update, either this month or last (I'm not entirely sure) which probably means I missed out on it. I just got listed in the dmoz early today, which means I won't be included in Google's index until the next update, right? Does anyone have any idea when that might be? From what I read here and at webmasterworld, Google updates about once every month. Usually toward the end of the month. Which leads me to this question: Did June's update already come around?
Google constantly updates its index daily. You'll be in their index before the next 'update' that everyone is speaking of. When people refer to a 'Google update' they are usually talking about algorithm changes, toolbar PR updates, and backlink updates. -- Derek
Are you maybe wondering when the next PR udate will be? Current speculation, based on past patterns, is that the next PR udate will occur in about 4 to 5 weeks, or roughly the end of July to first part of August. Unfortunately, depending on when it is, you may not see a bump in your PR this go around solely based on the ODP listing. Google sandboxes newer sites, but also "sandbags" links pointing to a site IMO. That's not to say it won't show by the next update, but plan on not. Also, if you miss this one, all is not lost certainly. While you're waiting for this one, or the next, keep building your content, code and links - don't waste too much time checking and worrying about the PR. And if you have to wait, by then your ODP listing will have migrated throughout the directory listings of Google, AOL, Netscape and more! Good Luck and Happy Ranking! w®m
I'm just hoping to get included in Google's index soon. I have a lot of original content that I think (I THINK) will help me rise through the SERPs to get to the top, or near it. PR-wise, I did establish a lot of incoming links from high-ranking sites besides the dmoz listing, so that'll probably help my PR to go up (it has to, since I'm at zero now, heh heh). Thing is, Google hasn't bothered to show any of my backlinks, so that sucks.
The number of IBL's that G shows is pretty pointless. You'll not really rise up the SERPs until your site escapes the sandbox - at least not for your primary keywords. Keep adding IBL's, monitoring keywords and have patience. Getting a good ranking in G takes time especially for a new site.
Crawling comes first, and indexing comes later(usually 12-48 hours later)... Oh, and then de-indexing comes after that... -- Derek
Question, guys: how do you know how much your site has been crawled? Whenever I look at my awstat logs, it tells me when Googlebot visited, how many times, and how much bandwidth they took. But I don't know where to find out how much of my site, or what pages, they've spidered. Where do you find this out within the awstat report? (P.s. My server also gives me access to a webalizer report, if that makes a difference.)
You would need to open up the raw logs for that... then using "ctrl F"... plug in part of the IP address for the bot.. and you will be able to follow the path the bot took when crawling your site.
Yes sir. Very steady. SERPS seem to be improving slowly, but traffic is flat. 27 Jun 2005: 7,749 28 Jun 2005: 7,773 29 Jun 2005: 7,757 Now that's flat!
i smell that something gonna happen (maybe a pr update?) on Monday, July 4th (Independence Day in USA). Google always likes to do stuff on holidays
Urgh I hope they do SOMETHING. My site has been up for a month, I'm in the dmoz, I have backlinks from high PR sites, and STILL no appearance in the Google index. They're not even recognizing any of my incoming links. Arrgh. They are so friggin slow. How the hell did Google rise to their current #1 position when they are this behind everything???? It's confounding.
