Alright, I just submitted it so hopefully it does well... I also took the ads off so more people will hopefully digg it.
Its no good just submitting. If you have something realy, realy interesting then you may get on the first page, otherwise it is unlikely.
Thanks for the reply tlainevool. I've seen that and have already downloaded the icon pack also. I've tried to add the icon I wanted as a link with the link code they supplied there. I use WP and when I placed the entire code in the edit post box it screwed the post and I didn't see the button. Do I have to manually change all the parameters of the link? If so, that would make for a pain in the butt insertion every time I want to use it. There wouldn't be a wp-plugin that would do this automatically floating around would there? I did a google search and didn't find one.
Try this: http://www.aviransplace.com/index.php/digg-this-wordpress-plugin/ BTW, I'm finding a lot of this from Neil Patel's The Beginners Guide to Digg. If you're interested in Digg you should be looking at Niel and Cameron's Blog.
Adding in "Digg this" buttons to your stories can really help increase the number of diggs your stories receive. Before using these buttons I'd have been lucky to receive 2 diggs. Nowadays I'm getting a few more from people who just come across my site, like the story and digg it.
But I just started this site, so I was hoping to get on the first page of Digg and then I would get some backlinks. Since I have no traffic, nobody else would digg it. And after the first day it's pointless anyways because you can't get to the front page I don't think.
w00t I submitted it to Fark last night and now it's on their Tech page. I've got 500 hits already today. I'm not sure if I should put some ads up, or leave them off so I can get more backlinks...
I've tried submitting items from my site several times. The two times i hit it big it went like this: First big Digg (over 3,300 Diggs); I submitted around 10PM PST on a Friday evening - this is usually a slow-time for my targeted visitors Second big Digg (over 1,300 so far); I submitted mid-afternoon on a Saturday- also a slow time for my type of visitors It's been about 4 months since those two Diggs (submitted 1 day apart) - After the initial surge of 40,000 - 50,000 uniques per day for a few days, it has slowed to a steady 100-200 per day.. I really dont think it matters when you submit if what you're submitting is interesting - if it's good, it will get Dugg. And FYI - I also think that the number of backlinks and other publicity generated from a successful Digg'ing is far more valuable that that initial surge of traffic .. but that surge of traffic sure is exciting!!
