When is enough enough?

At what point do you stop optimizing adsense? I mean if adsense is already optimized to generate maximum revenue, there would be no point in optimizing anymore. So what factors do you use to determine if you are getting the most out of the site already? Right now I only go by if I am satisfied with the income, are there any flaws with my way of thinking?

how do you know it is a maximum revenue? And do you know your site is fully optimized? There is no limit in generating revenue from adsense.....

I know there are no limits in generating revenue from adsense, but there is a limit on optimization and that is what I am asking. For example, I remember reading google sent select publishers an email asking them if they want tips on optimization and later told them there were no further optimization needed.

Adsense obviously has a checklist for employees to go through when helping out a popular site with optimisation, and if the boxes are ticked then there is 'nothing more to be done'.

As for when to stop - how about a 50% CTR?

Stop when the increases are not worth the time put in or if it is harming other revenue streams on the site.

Start concentrating in traffic, there is a maximum CTR (no matter how unlikely), there is effectively no maximum cap on traffic. Get enough traffic and even a .1% CTR can yield great dividends.

what do you mean by "optimizing adsense" like going thru all the SEO stuff to make your site on top or are you talking about in terms of keywords and content?

Difficult question this. I think the best answer would be when you have reached the optimum revenue from Adsense. When will this be? That will differ. I usually do everything Google suggest e.g placement etc and see which works best. After that I stop worrying about it and focus totally on getting more traffic.

what alang said, how do u know ur current setup is generating maximum revenue for you? If so, thats great, but you can only be sure through testing. It definately takes month and months of testing to be so sure.

Maybe my ads are not 100% optimized, but they are atleast 80% optimized, that I am sure about. So, I better spend my valuable time on building traffic rather than testing.

If you feel happy with your optimization and you don't think anything more needs to be done, then by all means go ahead and focus on getting traffic. You are sure to get a much better result if you can increase your traffic.

The double T's of advertising - traffic and testing.

I don't know how anyone knows how optimized their page is. The only measure is how much money you are making. That is, if your goal is to increase earnings.

My last response was a little glib, so I'll have another go at it.

I don't think optimizing is ever really "done". Even if you reach a level where you think you are doing well, it should be something to think about as you site changes. You may start getting traffic from different sources, and that may affect how your ads perform. Or you may add new pages that are somehow different from you old pages and that may require changes. In other words it's not something you can have on a checklist and consider it done. Just like any other aspect of running a web site like building content, SEO, generating traffic, etc, its an ongoing process.

As for me, I know it's not enough because I have yet to produce an e-Book about "How to make money from Adsense" and sell it for $97
