When is a Forum Big Enough.
Whats the sweet spot, where there is enough members to have a decent community and a share skills without just being awash with spam and trolls.

Whats to Big, Whats to small?

I think it depends on the number of members.
I think any forum with 20K members is big enough.

Well, when something is big enough, don't people stop growing it? You don't really want to stop growing a forum, imo...

You want to get as many good-quality members as possible though, and try and get rid of the crappy worthless users (spambots mainly) ;)

forum is big enough when there is regular growth in threads, posts, users , also then people start refering the site to others on their own.

first of all, a forum is never big enough. lol..There is always room for improvment and always room for new member's in my eyes. I guess it's big enough to handle it's own once there are 10-20k member's and new post's being made every couple of minutes or so..

I guess that would best describe it. in terms of numbers maybe 10k is a good number.

Personally I find that forums like Ozzu and Digitalpoint are full of very low quality content.
I actually find smaller forums with a few dozen regular posters tend to have more connunity spirit and if you get the right ones the content can be very high quality.
Im aiming for quality over quantity myself, but I know that a specific ammount of content is required before a forum will really run on its own steam.
Whats the general consensus on a decent minimum forum size, and whats the point where the law of diminishing returns kicks in on a larger forum.

i think on very large forums its more of a rush to post before someone posts before you and says what you was going to say.
if you have a high ranking forum you might find people just want to get loads of posts across your site to get a link in their signature.
This is why I'm guessing ozzu dont allow google to follow signature links.

When your property (sig links, avatar etc) are worth something, its actually a big forum.
