When is a backlink not a backlink...

In my never ending quest to get backlinks to my site, I've taken the "comment to relevant blogs" approach while putting my URL in my signature. So I've found a number of high PR blogs that are dofollow and after posting to these sites, I've noticed something.

I've noticed that a number of these blogs do not allow html in the comment area. This will cause my URL to show up as text rather than a clickable link. Are only clickable links considered a backlink, or just the fact that your "www.mysite.com" or "http://www.mysite.com" is listed as text enough to be considered a backink?

Backlink is when you link the site witch links you.
What you mean is when you can get your signature links instead of text.

You have to ask someone at the blog what criteria do you have to accomplish to have links in your signature. At DP forum, you have to be registered for X time and have X comments.

    Cheers,

You do must have clickable link to consider itself a backlink.

Greeeeeaaaaaat... so much for that... these blogs don't have subscriptions that count your posts. So there isn't a "HTML" restriction that gets lifted after number of posts.

I guess it does help to have your URL out there, even though it isn't clickable.

Looks like I'll have to stick with writing articles.

    Thanks

A backlink is NOT really a backlink (well, obviously!) if it is NOT SHOWING AS BACKLINK in ANY SEARCH ENGINES.

The backlink is not backlink anymore if the link from it was removed, changed to the test.

If the blog does not allow a link (if it is not click able, it is not a link for search engines) in the comments field, then you might want to search for do-follow blogs with CommentLuv enabled. What this will do is allow you to have a website link and in addition, it will allow you to choose your anchor text/link label/link title and make it keyword rich.

It needs to be clickable to be a link.

Actually back links refer when visitor of other site or crawler is finding the path to come on your site, where your link is live, is coming on your site by clicking on your link. So just placing the text on any blog or site is not considered as the back link.

It just may be helpful for a live visitor that after reading your comment, he is coming on your site, but from the search engine point of view, it is not helpful to you. Some blogs provide this facility taking links in the comment area, but mostly not. It is a better way to take links placing your keyword in the Title of the comment box on blog.

So clickable link is the back link.
