When I used to promote Adense - I used to wonder how people make BIG money on Adsense or was the reality more like only 1 in a thousand makes say upwards of $500 per day... Because no matter how much I tried I made only a few dollars - & even to make that I spent 100's of precious hours of my life chasing nothing...My friends call it ..."Chasing the wind" ...I never really exceeded approx $20 per day (Achieving $20 was very rare) - It made me realize that I would have made a lot lot more money working for even minimum wages compared to what I was making with Adsense. Then I discovered YPN & my hopes soared again after all with a doz. or so hits I was making $50, that got me excited again. Now I wish I could say $50 was a regular feature every day - IT IS NOT - But I still see some hope there.. my heart still wants to earn the elusive $1000 per day & get that going on auto-pilot. Am I chasing the Wind???????Am I burning my house to keep warm??? (Spending precious hours that will never yield the $1000 per day) All thoughts, comments & suggestions are welcome. Thanks
According to me you should try and see what made your day the best. For eg. is it weekends, an ad placed on a particular page, your content etc. Once you find out what exactly is the reason behind a good income at day end try and do it more. You will earn more. Im saying this cos with my sites I see that I earn more the day I update it. Updating my site frequently is the key for me. There are ofcourse more things like ad placement, traffic etc. You need to figure it out and act accordingly. Hope this helps.
Hi A1biotin, If you're really spending hundreds of hours and only maxing out at $50.00/day, chances are you're not doing enough of the right things, or not doing them enough of the time. Those that make $500.00-$1000.00/day are probably not working harder than you are...but they may be working smarter. A cliche, yes - but only so because it's true. I'd suggest taking some time (and money, if necessary) to learn what's working for others, and then implement their methods into your work. I know it's always in vogue to bash the "gurus", but there are a lot of worthwhile programs that can really help you get off the ground. HTH, Sam
Some things also take time - like building up a clientele of visitors. My main site has been around for ten years and gets 700,000 visitors/month. OK, some people ahve done far better and others have done worse, but you get the idea. I have set up other sites, admittedly smaller, and spent lots of time on them, and some do well and others do not. My Mac stats-software site doesn't do well at all in terms of numbers of visitors because it's such a specialty niche; revenue barely pays for the ISP. So even if I spent years on that site, and nothing else, I doubt I could get it to pay the rent. (Ditto my Rootes Group site.) But I have other sites that did much better that pay almost by accident. Part of it is the topic you choose and how crowded it is. I would say that you should try using Phorum as your forum if you want to build up a visitor base - it seems to invite chattiness more than most. I remember webBBS as being VERY good for starting conversations but that was unmanageable over time. Perhaps if you told us what your site was we could help more. Is it free-advertising? Because that looks to me like an MFA imitation of craiglist, to be perfectly blunt. I am NOT saying that's waht it is or that you have little worth; I *AM* saying that's what visitors might think. Also with ads you really need to get a critical mass which is why specializing mighit be a great idea. (I have to admit I've always gone in for creating content rathe than services. That said there ARE services that can be quite useful. For one, I've always wanted to see a big version of the Car Guys' garage database. For that matter I think if you came up with a car registry software package to sell to enthusiast sites you'd make a mint esp. if it had an import feature for those using Fusion Registry.)
Just make unique contents in your site. And make take months or years for it to be popular. Patience is a virtue. Good luck!
