when I change htaccess I get "some files can harm your computer"

I've been trying to set up the ad network for a couple of days now on 2 or 3 different sites. It seems that after I change the .htaccess file, my sites start showing the message "Some Files Can Harm Your Computer" message when I open them on my browser or when I click on a link.

My pages are all html with php enabled.

It will be down to the syntax of your htaccess file and how your host has configured the server.

Who is your host and whats in htaccess?

pls send the link (put it in your post) so we can have a look.

Have you chgmod the adtext file to allow writing? (Think its 666)

well shouldn't it only be writable by the server not by every one... as the server is requesting the new content.....
777 opens it to all which is probably fine for now until someone finds out how to manipulate this....

Does anybody have an 800 number for lunarpages.com? I was supposed to get 800 support but they don't show any phone numbers. Nice marketing idea.

okay, I found their number and they said everything is okay with my site and they couldn't replicate the error message I'm getting when using my browser. Does anybody else see that message when goingn to summitpacific.com?

I don't get the message with my other computer so maybe its just a security setting on my browser.

However, I'm still not getting the ads on my site. Anybody have any ideas?

sorry I've been known for my unclear ramblings....

If for whatever reason you can't delete the .htaccess (. in Unix generates hidden file - some ftp clients adheare to it and don't show it) but you still have problems a way round this is to simply send an empty .htaccess

After killing the htaccess is there still a way to make the ad network work or are you recommending that I throw in the towel?

    hey

    1. st rule - never give up
    2. nd rule - request help left right and center

alter .htaccess and see what may work also contact your host and ask them to arrange for htm html to be treated as php or tell you what works.

If they don't like it, it's time to change hosts I'm afraid. Hosting is a comodity and fiercely competitive - no reason to settle for second best.

The intent of my question was to see if you've given up on me. ;)

    Here's where I am:
I'm unclear which set-up instructions to use: phpBB2.x; vBulletin 2.x; 3.x; or Other. Since my doesn't sound like any of these others I assume it's "other."

My pages are html but my server handles php.

I've followed the instructions for "other" and my ads won't show. Additionally, something I've done causes me to see the message "some files can harm your computer. Do you want to open or save to disk..." when I go to my domain from my main browser. THis message doesn't appear from my other computer.

I've tried this htaccess code: AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .htm .html
that xpat recommended. I've also tried the one in the instructions. My ads still don't show up.

I need to go to an appointement now, but will return this afternoon. I appreciate anybody's suggestions.

    hi,

according to lunarpage blurb you should have cpanel to control your bit of the server...

    If you have it's easy
depending on skin and version find site management under this should be
apache handlers go there two fields

    .html application/x-httpd-php (select add)

    should do it.

To test if php works for you rename your index or any other page containing php code to .php load it and it should work if php is active on your server.

Regarding the save to disk message clear IE cach probably still the old page in there

Yes other is correct version to use - remember depending on your ftp client you may have to do a chgmod 777 on the txt file on your server.

This is very interesting. I do have cpanel and see the option to add: "html application/x-httpd-php"

However, I decided to test your other suggestion first, so I renamed a copy of my index page "test.php" and uploaded it. Then I pointed my browser to the test page and there it was rendered perfectly, WITH THE ADS ON IT... well with one ad on it anyway.

I still have not done anything with the apache handler yet, but will experiment with that next. Does adding ".html application/x-httpd-php" negate the necessity of the htaccess file?

    yes it does.

If you need .htm as well you have to add a second line
