If we have a new site, how long does it take for a search engine to crawl that site. Does this hold the same for a blog as well? Does a search engine like yahoo, google pick a blog automatically after going through add url submission?

Search engines follow links. If you have links to a new site on a site that gets spidered frequently search engine will find you quicker than if only link comes from a site that gets spidered monthly.

I think it is all about links. If you have a big site a search engine will not necessarily crawl entire site at once. It keeps coming back..

Try a fairly unique phrase that appears on your blog and see if you can find that phrase on any of the search engines.

And also with your blog, add your rss feed to the main directories and especially add it into your my yahoo account if you have one.

This will keep them all coming back to crawl your site more often and pick up extra data that you are posting.

Plus the traffic that they can send to you :)

Craws are going on 24/7. The more good links you got, the better.

I don't recommended using search engine submission tools, this will hurt your site...some search engine submission tools submit to "bad neighborhood" sites or even spam/blocked sites mark by google... its better to do a manual submission, remember the better category you are linked, the better serps you will get.
