When do backlinks become noticed?

Hi guys I've started the whole building links process for my site and was wondering when they become noticed on the google back link checker.

If have used the yahoo explorer tool and that seems to show the links pointing to my site, but google dosen't.

Is google very slow at doing this?

    Thanks in advance :)

Google notices a link then googlebot visits the page where your link is placed, but this info is accesable to website owner only, the best way to find out that google found your links is too see cached version of page which is linking to you. Anyway links will affect in your rankings after few months only if these links are from regular sites(not authority).

Lnks from big authority sites will affect your rankings in couple days after google finds them. Hope this helps

Have you signed up for google webmaster tools? This will show you many more links than the link: search in google.

    http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

Even so, google and yahoo notice links at different times because they each crawl the web differently. Also, yahoo tends to update their links once they find them, whereas google does periodic updates of links in the webmaster tools.

How soon a particular link shows up depends on how often the search engine crawls the site containing your backlink. A backlink on the front page of cnn.com will probably show up a lot faster than a backlink from a seven-deep detail page on the "latest and greatest" free directory.

Google dont want you to know accurately how many links they have to your site. even with their webmaster tools, I know of many links I have, that still don't show in the panel.

Yea, google tends to disguise how many links they actually know about for whatever reason

If your using yahoo explorer, that means that your using site:domain. It is the same thing as google but different in query command. The syntax: link:domain.:D
