When deciding on a domain name for your new site, If i was too create a website for computer related stuff. Would you want a domain with pr3 with a few backlinks and stuff or create your own domain, and start from scratch?
Just a buy a domain your happy with, and that's it. There's no point in developing a site you may actually like, on a domain you don't.
Yeah but i was thinking if i found a domain that i liked that had a good page rank would it be a good idea to go for that one, being more traffic.
Page rank really doesn't matter, and doesn't necessarily translate into traffic. There's a lot more that goes into it than that. There's no magic number for backlinks, but the safe bet is quality over quantity. Take a look at the dropped domains that sell on the DP marketplace and let me know if you find any w/ the stats and a domain that actually makes sense w/ computer stuff. There's a good chance you won't find any. My advice, go register something brandable, and start from there.
If you found a domain name with page rank, then you have to check many other things too, you have to check if the domain name is penalized previously or not, if it is penalized then hard to know, you or I may not be knowing much technical things to know penalization of a domain name......... so why to adopt the headache, simply register a domain name according to your business meaning.... if you are going to register a domain name at Godaddy..... then the normal price is around $15 but if you managed to fond an appropriate promo code, you can get in around $2 so it is really too cheap I will say..
As Alex just mentioned, purchasing an aged domain requires some important background checks first and ensure it was not penalized or used in shady or illegal spam niches for example. Additionally, if the domain backlinks do to match your topic or niche, a future Google update might start taking action against the practice, as it has been used by many. What's important to know, is that using an aged domain is usually a blackhat technique to help quickly list a website on search rankings, but requires a whole SEO strategy behind it for success in almost all cases. There are many ways to go about it as well and different strategies have bee proven effective. With that said, I agree with the advice provided above. Building a quality website with regular updates of fresh and valuable content is enough to get you going and succeed in the long run, without the use of an expensive PR aged domain. Techniques used to quickly list usually include a short lifespan for the website, and while it can be valuable strategy to some, it is not a long term or legitimate business and will need to be repeated over and over.
Thanks for the feedback, I now have a better understanding of aged domains. What would be good domain name for computer related website? should it have computers in the domain or try and keep it short like pc or tech. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.
It's typically better to go as short as you can, while still having a domain that "matches" your site. Personally I wouldn't register one that contains "Computer" unless you can get iComputer.com or something like that. I'd go with PC or Tech. A domain like PCing.com won't be available, but adding a little prefix like, "i", "e", "x", etc., opens up more possibilities. So you could have something like iPCing.com, etc. If you go that route, I would make sure the "base domain" (w/o) the prefix isn't developed. Otherwise you could be dealing w/ lost traffic or legal issues... Or if it's going to be a more personal blog, which it sounds like, you could consider using your "name" + tech, pc, etc. Similar to TomsHardware. Something a little longer isn't necessarily bad, just as long as it's relatively memorable, easy to spell, etc.,
I would choose domain with PR3 and valuable backlinks, because it's long process to gain from 0. I own my business domain for nearly 1 year and it's stil has PR of 0...
I have to admit that I am not very familiar with dropped domains but I recently tried to catch an expiring domain from Namejet but I was not quick enough. The domain that I was looking to get was the Berlintegelairporthotels.com and I was thinking to redirect it with 301 redirect to my main money site to get some juice from the relevant back links that it has. How much do you think this site worth? See here: http://www.seomastering.com/audit/berlintegelairporthotels.com/ Thanks
Answering your question, I would go with either a brandable domain name or generic domain name that I could be proud of and not a page rank domain. If you work hard on your website, then page rank will follow.
branded domains with good page rank and quality backlinks, is better than new one. but the price should be reasonable
I disagree. Just because the page rank you see says "pr3" does not mean it is worth anything. Google could run the update (and I have seen it happen) and the page rank just vanishes and you are stuck with a crap domain, with no pr. Your business site might jump up in PR when the next update runs. Additionally ask this, if page rank is real, solid, reliable, and valuable, why do they sell it? Because its not. I sold a page rank domain for almost nothing, it was penalised by google (nothing to do with me). Even if the domain drops, it will still show its got "page rank" but it will be permanently be penalised by google. So its 100% useless , you are going to have people constantly register shit banned domains, to sell to others. #op. IMHO, I would prefer to start from scratch, or I would look at taking over a site similar to what I plan to get into, as this might already have a few users, but NO, I would not take a domain only for its page rank.
