When can I register an expiring domain?

There's this domain that I want; it expired July 5, 2009, and it went to the GoDaddy page with the "This domain is pending deletion or renewal" and after a while, it's on some Sedo.com park page with "this domain is for sale?"

How/when can I register it for the normal price $10, and not buy it from Sedo? (if no one buys it from Sedo)

When a domain expires it has to go through phases before it goes back out to the public for sale.
There is a redemption period that is 30 days and there is a deletion period which is 5 days.
There is also usually 30 days after the domain expires before it even goes into these final stages.

You can back order the domain on Godaddy though it is not guaranteed you will get the domain when it goes through deletion.
They will keep you informed of the status and try to buy the domain for you when it comes back on the market.

most domains are registered by domain tasters ( you can try the domain for $0.20 for max 5 days ) soon after it is deleted from the registry. So if they can see some traffic / manage to sell the domain during the period you wont get the domain. To be noted is that they can also register for another 5 day period. If the traffic is good, they will be parked and offered for sale. Hope this helps you.
