    newbie question! :D

when i register for a new domain, does it automatically mean that i get to use subdomains? or do i have to register each subdomain separately? or is this company-dependent?

If you own a domain, there's no technical limitation on how many subdomains you can have underneath it (although I think the whole domain can't exceed 63 characters). It depends who runs your DNS, some companies will allow you to create unlimited subdomains for free, others will charge for any or over a certain number (e.g. five). You do have to "register" the subdomains in that there has to be a DNS entry for each one (either a CNAME or an A record) but that's not quite the same as registering a domain.

Generally you set up your sub domains in control panel.
