When building out a site, do you use a template system?

I am trying to build a site out, but I want to make it as easy as possible to change the styles or parts that matter most. Can anyone recommend an easy to use template system? Most seem pretty complex..

not quite what i had in mind.

i was thinking something along the lines of what is found in this tutorial: http://www.codewalkers.com/c/a/Display-Tutorials/Writing-a-Template-System-in-PHP/7/

i tried to use that, but it screws things up when you call a .php file into it

There are designs sites where you can buy templates for cheap, even download for free. After that it's up to you to customize.

I've used smarty and other smaller template systems but normally I just use normal PHP and css or CodeIgniter to do my work then integrate my templates in... smarty is good for large sites but not for smaller sites like my own.

I would suggest you use a cms like e107, has many themes already, can add your own. Can switch themes with a click of a button. e107 is very flexible.

After asking around and exploring the options, i think ive decided on bTemplate for this project. Though its a bit old, it is simple and straight forward for what i need.

I use Smarty and a custom "lite" framework, but for speed use straight PHP.

Ha! Some clearly missed the point here and were referring to web templates.
