When blogging, Do you target Readers or Search Engines?

Do you make your blogs so readers can have a really good reading experience or do you make their content relevant to search engines where you might sacrifice readership, or is it a combination of both.

    Thanks

Both, first you need to get the SE action but then you need to keep the readers attention.

I always think of the readers first so that they will stay readers. Search Engines don't buy anything.
I do target my headlines to grab search queries of the topic. I don't sacrifice anything hoping to impress search engines, you don't have to.

There is nothing worse then seeing a site or a blog with badly written sentences and information that doesn't make a lot of sense. It's great that people want to optimize for search engines, but realistically you will optimize naturally if you are a great writer. A good writer can easily get the site on the first page of google through using words creatively.

I have done it before and it is great knowing that I didn't need to do anything else except having the ability to write creatively and cater for my members.

Well my question is if someone doesn't do anything for SEO purposes then I assume traffic building methods will have to be used extensively until a solid base has been established, having said that if a site has a strong following; would that site be found easily in the search engines based on the strong readership presence alone or not?

I do a combination of both. I always think of how I would say it to anyone in person then add the links and some keywords that I am building for.

This is a very intelligent question. I do all I can to optimize my title, optimize my tags, and write my content as creatively and naturally possible as I can. This compromise leaves me under the impression that I am personally getting the best of both worlds. Your content, in my opinion, must lean heavily towards the reader. Good content, promoted correctly, will get found.

I do both although I think that you should focus on readers more when you first start. Then, when you get the readers start using SEO in your titles and such.

I'm on honest...and I try to optimize article for both SEO and human..
It depend on nature of articles...
if the article is short term ..I keep it for human ...
but if article add lots of values I optimize it for search engine...because after time its only search engine who will give u the traffic..:)

If you want to run a successful blog, you will write for your readers. You will focus on generating quality content that resonates with your audience. Period.

The ultimate aim has to be target readers who come via search engines...

It depends. I have some just for readers, and some just for search engine visitors. The last ones usually wouldn't get a readership anyways with their topics

It depend on your site needs, if you sell products you need to have readers but if you blogging with adsense you need se traffic a lot.

Isn't it true that for adsense targeted sites, it's preferable to minimize content so readers will not focus too much on it and isntead look around and hopefully click on the ads?

That is the method that many people choose, basically those are Spam blogs, no viable information or good content, just an excuse to place ads.
Seems like too much work to me, to put up a blog just to put up other peoples ads. There are plenty of blogs that have adsense that are good blogs.

Blogs like you described are in a constant battle to get new traffic because no one ever comes back to them, they have no returning readers.

It's the same as having a T.V. station that is 10% entertainment and 90% commercials, people would get bored of that real fast and never come back.

If you have great traffic building skills and can constantly come up with ways to attract new traffic over the blogs in the same niche that actually offer the reader what they are looking for, then that may work for you.

Like a popular TV show , many bloggers would rather have people tune in frequently and grow readership,
....also, lack of content, and a high bounce rate will put you in bad faith with search engines since they want to provide the most relevant content to it's users, not prop up a bunch of spam blogs. They get market share and make money through advertising by pleasing users, not pissing them off with a bunch of crappy sites full of ads.

lastly, a spam blog has a hard time with link building. First of all, nobody links to them naturally because the content sucks, and not many people will exchange links because they don't want to link to crap...so you end up looking for shortcuts to place comment links all over the web and spam other blogs with your link to get traffic.

If all you want to do is present ads, you can just pick a program and make a few landing pages and sell products that way, you don't have to do that with a blog...affiliate marketing pays way more than adsense anyway, and you don't have to jump through all the hoops.
