When and How to Develop a Domain Name

Sorry, this will seem like a total newbie question, but I was wondering how you should develop domain names, in regards to selling them. I know that developing a domain name means that you should build a site for the domain name, but how much should you do? Should you just create a quick site, in a few hours, or should you create an extremely thorough site, that is promoted, and already starting to make money?

Also when should you develop a site, and when should you just sell the domain directly?

    Thanks,
    Kyle

A good domain name can have value and sell by itself.

The vast majority of newly registered domain names have minimal value.

When people talk about developed sites, they are generally looking for a site that has quality content, and or quality backlinks. The older the developed site, the more traffic it gets, the revenue it generates, adds more value.

If you're talking about non-premium domains, in most cases, the value is going to increase in proportion to the amount of monthly revenue the site generates, and for how long it has been doing so - taking into consideration the amount of time and effort it takes to maintain the site.

Simply throwing up a site on a domain without any promotion is likely to add very minimal, if any, value.

I think it depends on the value of the name. If it is a cheap hand reg .info then maybe just making a quick turnkey site would be the best but if it is a fairly good .com them it would be worth spending some time making a nice site.
