when a website is temp. offline do e-mails get lost?

    if a site is down for say 1 day for technical reasons do all e-mails sent during this off time to the said website get lost or do the e-mail clients try to redeliver at a later time??

    sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in...

    The emails should not get lost - not from what I have seen anyway unless you have a really bad provider.

    Hosting down = client cannot send you email at the down time
