you can't stop by robots it is very simple work just you have to submit your website in google webmaster tool and set prefared domain www and if you doing any work for your website then post your all links with www like- http://www.example.com

The only way for Google to index Both is if your site replied for both.. If the Redirect was not working for a while then that may be the reason, and a short wait while google recrawl's and calculates will be all that is needed...

if we're talking about a wordpress blog here go ahead and access Settings - General in your administration panel .. there you should have your complete website address setup, www included .. once you have done that google will automatically understand it and you'll have your website listings changed sooner or later

You should set 301 redirection non www to www version.
    Also you can specify <link rel="canonical" href="yourwwwurl"/>
this code in your home page in the head part. To tell the SE that the preferred location of url.

Every website has 2 version of its domain name. The "www" verison and the "non-www" version.

There are a few things you could do to tell Google to crawl your website with the "www". First off, go in your Google Webmaster Tools and specify that you would like your "www" version to be crawled.

Second, use a 301 redirect to redirect everybody and everything that lands on your "non-www" version of your website.

Do you have any sitemap for your website?

IF yes, check in the sitemap if the URLs listed with or without www.
And i you think you need to make changes. as suggeested by "metaseo", use 301 redirect.

" www " is the best format of redirection of URL. You can use .htaccess to redirect it.then your site will be crawled with www

Use following code in your website htaccess:

    non-www to www 301 redirect:
    Code:

    Options +FollowSymLinks
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^domain\.com$
    RewriteRule (.*) http://domain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

    www to non-www 301 redirect:
    Code:

    Options +FollowSymLinks
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.domain\.com$
    RewriteRule (.*) http://www.domain.com/$1 [R=301,L]
