Many people here run different websites and i was wondering how you manage them all? Here is my weekly work schedule: Monday morning (8 AM - 12 AM) : Working on affiliate site 1 Monday afternoon (1 PM - 5 PM) : Working on affiliate site 2 Tuesday morning: Working on OSCommerce shop 1 Tuesday afternoon: Working on OSCommerce shop 2 Wednesday morning: Working on affiliate site 3 Wednesday afternoon: Working on affiliate site 4 Thursday (whole day): Working on big entertainment site 1 Friday (whole day): Working on big entertainment site 2 For my existing affiliate sites and OSCommerce shops i only need around 4 hours per week per site. During that time i add new products, start a few ad campaigns, general advertising (link exchanges, etc.), small site updates, etc. The last 2 days of the week i work on my entertainment sites which need a lot of updates and managing since there are forums, blogs, etc. I do customer (e-mail) support for all sites between 12AM and 1PM (when i'm eating) I forbid myself to use the computer during weekends (except customer support 1 hour or so) This schedule is working very good for me because i got the evening and weekends free. I wonder how others here manage their limited time. Or do you guys just update your sites "when you feel like it" Or do you hire people to update some of them? Didier
This is a wonderful post. Thank you for sharing. An often overlooked issue with running your own network of sites (Or any business) is time management. It's great to see you are managing your time efficiently as all too often in this business, site/business owners do not manage their time at all and only deal with issues as they arise. It's all too easy to sit down at your machine and jsut start working with whatever pops into your head. However, ever since I started managing my time correctly, I have seen my productifity increase ten fold and even my accountant commented on the revenue increase that followed. I suggest reading Getting Things Done by David Allen as I find his system works great for me. (Although maybe not for everyone. I also suggest reading the time management Wiki that has lots of useful tips and links to other systems.
To tell you the truth cianuro, my weekly schedual is bizzare. I tend to do a schedual, and set tasks, but my life is so dynamic that I cannot concentrate on that and I do something else. I've always got new ideas and I keep working on new things, sometimes it's even hard to finish a project, because I got 4-5 going on at the same time. I'm probably not the only person going through this though, there are many talented people in DP that got a lot of stuff going on. My problem is that I always check my stats, play a game of battlefield 2, work on my site, talk to my contacts on msn, and at the end of the day, only a small amount of work gets done, but I don't know why, I get to generate about 1K per month, sometimes more, even if I do jack s*it. A schedual is good when you got a solid spirit that can keep up. I , like many others, just can't.
My schedule is not consistent because I fit my websites around my consultancy. I recently noticed that I got to get a proper schedule going though. I have started by picking out my 3 most profitable and enjoyable projects and trying to take them to the next level. Taking them to the next level will require a schedule .. I just don't think it will work just doing bits and pieces when I get breaks in my consultancy work.
I do when i fine something new or cool. I wake-up around 12:30 PM every day then i take breakfast.... After that i sit in my home office to start checking my web statistics and accounts (adsense, adversal etc). I work work and work.....eat, even my family meets me in my offcie I find new ideas, advertise my existing websites, reading and posting forums, talking with some other webmasters on msn for getting more ideas and sharing ideas. I go to bed around 2 AM night and then repeat the same routine.
Very good post Didier I work full time in a very quiet shop at present. This allows me to spend about 4 hrs per day on my sites, then a couple of hours each evening (inc. weekends). I have only just started building sites, and I have about 5 on the go, all 1/2 finished, with new ideas coming al the time....I need a schedual to get all of my projects completed. Cheers DD
This is a great post I am at a days job during the morning and come back home around 7 pm. Its a tough job and I have 3 personal website (mentioned in my sigs) and 7 more websites owned by a close friend. So I have to spend time working on all these 10 websites and also take time out to help my sister with her website. It gets pretty hectic and often I don't find any time at all to work on my own sites I wish I could completely work on my own sites and promote them and start earning from them, and give up my job. I always plan on making a schedule for my sites, but I'm never able to follow it. I wish I was better able to manage everything and work on my sites on a regular basis.
I did the same thing in the beginning. I ended up having tons of websites and even more plans in my head but not enough time to work on them all. This is why i forced myself to create and stick to a weekly schedule. It's only from then on that i started making some good money You just can't do it right when you are working on 20 things at the same time. It's better to have only 3 or 4 and put all your efforts in those. Didier
