I suppose an introduction to who he is, is in order.

Raymond Kurzweil (pronounced: [kÉšz-waÉªl]) (born February 12, 1948) is a pioneer in the fields of optical character recognition (OCR), text-to-speech synthesis, speech recognition technology, and electronic keyboard instruments. He is the author of several books on health, artificial intelligence, transhumanism, technological singularity, and futurism.

Kurzweil was inducted in 2002 into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, established by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He received the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize, the United States' largest award in invention and innovation, and the 1999 National Medal of Technology, the nation's highest honor in technology.

This man suggest that man is near Singularity.

Now personally, I don't know if we'll have as an 'optimistic' future as he suggest, but I really do believe we'll see some radical changes in the near future....where most generation x people will be baffled.

Could this guy be selling something?..sure, but given his credentials, it's a lot more likely he's just a bit more optimistic of the future than most others. I'm not quite sure everyone desires that future, but nevertheless I do think we have some interesting things ahead of us.
