As I was walking through the "wastelands" and "useful-lands" of the internet, I came across a controversial topic. Actually, Google and other internet giants are against something... What's your take? Do you support or are you against? And what's your reason?
Actually, this may directly affect you. For instance, the censorship may require some of your favorite sites such as Facebook and YouTube among others to give out some of their revenue. As a result, Facebook may require its users to pay for the services they are currently enjoying for free. Truthfully speaking, I have already voiced my concerns at www.google.com/takeaction/
Well it's just like the U.S. government, they want to take our guns and then our internet? That's a big no-no.
At least you're honest. My view is the complete opposite. I respect you for being truthful but I feel your views and others that think the same are part of the problem. You may think your not capable or have a voice but you do. It just has to be loud.
Free? I guess if you do all your work at Starbucks on a borrowed laptop. Income tax works because you employer withholds part of your paycheck. Extend that model to your ISP. Remember when California stated that if you had an affiliate in California you had to pay sales tax. As I recall, Amazon notified all their affiliates in California that they were no longer affiliates. June 2011. California backed down in October until September this year. About 15 years ago California wanted to collect sales tax in Las Vegas, Nevada on gasoline for trucks that were coming into California. There were signs in all the truck stop windows about this. They do collect income tax on ball players for the percentage of their time they play in California. As a US citizen you have the privilege of paying income tax living anywhere in the world except in certain special cases. 26 million in the UK pay a tv tax. A friend in London said they have special trucks that detect illegal receivers. She said that she did not own a telly, but she knew someone that had defeated their system. Google watches your searches and tailors the ads you see. For whatever reason I went out to Uncle Jim's worm farm site. After that for several days, every where I went, pages were presenting ads for Uncle Jim's Worm farm??? It annoyed my so much that I found a site startpage(dot)com that does a proxy for my google searches and does not record my ip. I still get the search results. Good by Uncle Jim. Set it up in Chrome so it does the search from and address bar. Been using it for the last two weeks. There's a certain perverse satisfaction knowing that google can't find me and show me ads based on my searches. If the internet worked via some sort of hyper-space with out wires or glass we might stand stand a chance to keep it free. Consider China and how they deal with the internet. You can't watch hulu and other sites if your ip shows you are in certain countries. There is a whole proxy business to give them an IP that is in the US. Many ISP's log your entire usage. So people pay to go to encrypted VPNs. Actually those millions of people do have a voice. I'm not sure who is winning, but it is evolving...
I'm completely against it. Without open communication were are not truly free. In my country, we have to sing songs such as the Star Spangled Banner in school everyday. That song is about freedom and I had to sing that song 5 days a week for 13 years. For what? They try to press these thoughts of freedom into us then use underhanded ways to take it away. I'm not shocked by this yet not too concerned. The internet outage in Syria made all of the headlines and the Chinese filtering is always a topic so I don't see this coming to fruition.
I hope this isn't going to affect affiliate marketing, because that is how me and my family are earning a living at the moment. I'm pretty sure they have tried a stunt like this in the past, and it failed miserably. No one in their right mind is going to support something like this. We all use the Internet, and no one in a developed country wants to be censored (otherwise, we might as well all pack our bags and move to China lol).
