So is $15 life time featured link too high? That's what I'm running on my directory.

I guess it all depends on the person buying the link as to whether it's fair or not. To me it seems fair for a page that G has indexed and has given a little PR.

$15 is fine, but I personally feel that if you drop it to $10 you can probably double or triple the number of people who buy the lifetime links at that price. This is one thing that you will need to consider: Get the right balance between number of links sold and price to make the maximum amount of money.

There are millions of webmasters with millions (or is it billions) of sites so there is a huge market. So, imo go for a price that everyone can afford but not too low either ...... you don't want it to look too cheap either or else people think it's not good value.

To list some off the top of my head that I think are extra nice:

    http://www.site-sift.com
    http://www.alivedirectory.com
    http://www.octopedia.com
    http://www.incrawler.com
    http://www.botw.org
    http://www.ableseek.com
    http://www.iwebtool.com/directory/

Just to name a few, but I think most paid directory listings are worth it for a lifetime link on indexed page with some PR. Don't know that I would pay $300 to get in Yahoo though. Oh yea, that $300 is yearly not permanent!

Free links (such as free directories, forum posts and sigs, links on sites you own) will only get you so far. Along with these, many webmasters buy links to promote their site and gain better PR. Obviously there are millions of links bought and sold on the web. Just take a look just on this forum (Solicitations & Anouncements Forums, Link Sales Forum). Are all these people actively buying and selling links flawed in their thinking? Or maybe they know something...like you get what you pay for.

Of course, it also depends on what kind of sites you have and your intent with them. If you sites are purely non-commercial then obviously spending alot money promoting makes no sense. But for most sites where making money IS the objective, it's hard to make money without spending some.

I have paid as much as 200 dollars for a listing on business.com. it all depends on the directory as to how much its worth. i have paid 20 dollars to be listed in a PR0 directory and also 40 for a more quality directory like site-sift. or other ones mentioned. It is important to evaluate the directory before submitting. i make sure to only submit to the top most quality directory.

for one of the sites i run, a month ago i was ranking in the top 200. now i am ranking in the top 10. everyone has their own link building strategies. if they didn't then no one's would work because they would all be the same.

I don't bother paying for web directory submissions anymore. I just think it is a waste of money that could be put to much better use.

I don't think you gain to much out of it either.

I just write articles, submit my site to free to submit directories, etc.

After I have done all that, I then look into paid advertising on various sites like Adwords, Overture, etc.

After that, visitors start to come to my sites and a few even add my site to theirs without me asking them to.

When I pay for submissions to web directories I have found that they may give a slight increase in PR, but I get NO traffic from them what's so ever.

I even submitted to a paid web directory where my site would be on a PR 5 page. So I thought that I would pay for it as it was PR 5 only then I found out that once I got approved the directory had put me into a new sub category that he had just included where it had a PR 0 and was well deep into the Web directory.

Yea, purchasing links is usually for a PR boost rather than traffic. If PR is not-so-important to your site then there are much better ways to spend your money on promotion.

I didn tell you i wouldn't spend any money for advertising but paying for directory listing is not to be confused with paying for advertisments

I for one dom't need to pay for listing no need for and for links i can gain a good pr not paying any dime for links

Pr is not so important THE Traffic you get is the most important

    Regards

I agree that the PR is not the most important thing. however i have found there is a correlation between PR and the title tag. Therefore a higher PR puts more emphasis on the title tag, and therefore affects your rankings in the SERPs.

Finding quality directories with proper anchor text links seems to be an easy way to boost you in the SERPs.

I have found that article submission is useful as well. but check to see the amount of back links you are actually receiving from these pages.
