What's your price limit for spending on a paid directory submission?

What's the most you typically are willing to spend?

Do you only pay for directories with high PR? Or maybe you look at Alexa traffic rankings?

Would you rather submit to multiple directories that cost only a couple bucks each, or would you prefer to pay a higher submission fee to a larger and more well known directory?

It'd be interesting to see people's responses. :)

Depends on the directory. $49 is the most I've paid.

Normally don't spend more than 10 bucks for a regular listing in a directory unless the directory has very good PR or good traffic (Site Sift I think is good value). Much higher than 30 or 40 bucks, then I think I can spend my money elsewhere and get more out of it.

I like to spend money on the newer directories that offer very cheap lifetime submissions when they are getting started. It is usually money well spent once they get indexed and gain some PR. Some people scoff at the idea at paying a couple bucks for a link on a new site with a PR of 0, but I can happily pay that small price for a lifetime listing, after all, is that page going to be a PR0 page forever?

for me, it would be the best if you go for BOTW, yahoo and dmoz.

I have just started a business directory [as part of WiredPages]. I have several areas on my site including two blogs, a forum, the main site and a news service [WiredPages]. All of the pages have a PR4 except the business blog which has a PR5.

Each category page of my busdir only has a PR3, however the main page of the busdir has a PR4. Is this because these are the newest pages on my site? I am asking in relation to my listing fee.

    Q...

I've never spent more than a few dollars. Most directories start out free. With a little patients they will eventually be worth being in. There are so many directories, it's hard to get excited about a pr4 directory that costs 49.00 to get into.

Depends on the directory. If it is worth an inclusion, I will do it.

When a directory has a good look and feel, when I get the feeling the directory owner(s) have put a lot of time in promoting and creating the directory, I'm willing to pay. The really depents on how much, but anywhere from $1,- to $50,- I've spend on a listings in a web directory.

    Good ones I've paid for:

    - azook.com
    - alivedirectory.com
    - site-sift.com
    - octopedia.com
    - seoma.net
    - dirspace.com (;))
    - thisisouryear.com
    - uncoverthenet.com
    - botw.org
    - bigall.com
and the list goes on and on..

    Good luck and happy submitting!

I've spent $40 at most to get included into a directory, but I based the value on traffic and high sub-cat PR. Also, this was for a regular listing, nothing featured, but has already paid off for me.

I would think featured listings are good to pay for when trying to get into new directories. ;)

Thanks for all the free info on $$ you'd spend to get into a directory, it is much appreciated. lol

I have paid $49 a few times and to me I wish I had spent the money on web traffic and not just because they have a good PR.

What a waste of money I had spent on web directories.

So, I guess what you would not pay $200 to $300 for Yahoo's dir? This one is one of the best.

I definately would NOT pay to get into yahoo.
I am no fan of DMOZ because they are corrupt.

When i see a directory that is not a 'standard' template, and can see that the owner is active and really into their directory, i'll make note, give it a few months, and eventually list for featured.

This is part of what I've set out to do. I am 100% new to directories and the whole marketing process, but I've no prblems in learning as I go.

I would probably pay the $300 to get into Yahoo, but only if I am selling a product or service that's worth a lot (say $100 - $200). That way I know that even if I gain nothing from PR etc. all I need is to convert the traffic from Yahoo once every 6 months to break even!

Having said that, most of the sites I had until now only provided information to users and didn't sell anything so I haven't as yet bought a directory listing. But, I am considering a Yahoo paid listing for www.selloutads.com. I'll see how it goes ..... need to raise some money first.

I wouldn't pay to get into Yahoo. I would prefer to spend the money on Google Adwords. At least I am likely to get much more traffic using Adwords.
