Hey everyone... I tried to look throughout the hundreds of threads and posts to look for .info and see whether or not they are worth the time and money.

I'd love to see what your opinions are on it.

If the domain name makes sense with the .info bit on the end then yes I would say it's a great extension in terms of branding potential. But if you're simply using .info as an alternative to .com and your website is not actually going to be providing information as such, I would avoid it.

I would agree. Also I noticed that .infos don't get confused with .coms the way .nets do.

I feel that info is a step brother of com/net/biz. I wouldn't take info if the com/net/biz are available. But if they aren't I will rather take info than any of the countries' domains. As no matter what, dot info is more international in nature.

    Love the feedback already!

I assumed that .info would only be useful if I was going to do strictly information purposes, so it's wiser to stick with com/net.

From what I have seen lately, a lot of people are using alt. domains... especially with the .me out and about now. I know they all serve different purposes, but it just seems that if it's not a com/net/org, then it's not worthy of investing in.
    ----------------------
I know this may be going back to square one, but does anyone see .info/.me/.name domains ever becoming up-tp-par importance as com/net? What do you think it's going to take to make it possible?

Obviously the "runts" of generic domains will have a long shot, as well as the pseudo domains, but for some reason I think if the group of people make the right moves, network and market it well enough, that there is a possibility.

From an seo perspective, I don't think it matters if you have a .com, .net, or .info. But, if the .com is available I would take it before the .info.

I one time did a craigslist experiment with one of my .info domains.

I posted a bunch of ads that looked like the following:
    Come see my website: www.<mydomain>.info

    I didn't get many clicks.

When I changed by ad to use link text like the following:
    Come see my website: <a href="www.<mydomain>.info">Stuff I sell</a>

    I got many more hits.

Sometimes seems as if people just don't want to click on a .info link.

I know exactly what you mean carl... I worked on promoting a friends site, it was .biz (completely legit, I can assure you) and we had to use similar tactics to get more clicks.

...i think what the online world needs to do is shed the fear of everyone by making some very stable, successful websites that use domains other than com/net.

.Info extension no more worth value in terms of everything! content, link popularity & pagerank also in SERPS! also it is not considered in TLD's

I think in the future (maybe not the near future), the internet community will become more "savvy." Users will be more likely to click on a .info or a .biz.

    But for now, .coms rule.

Let's think about real addresses (not web addresses)
Would you not go to someone's house because he lived at 12 elm street as opposed to 12 elm road??
No, you would still go to this person's house if it was a street, road, ave, or whatever.
I think this is the point internet users need to get to with .infos, .biz, etc.

Hopefully that's not a bad analogy, lol.

    Very true.
    A+ on the analogy :D

Maybe I'm a revolutionist as an entrepreneur, but I'm tired of seeing crappy .com/.net names like aaaa.com being sold for $$$?!? I mean, obviously someday .info and .biz will become a big player in the domain market once a wasteland has been made from the .com/.net domains (which I believe we are in the beginnings of right now) but I'm just wondering why no one has made a huge push for it yet.

In my opinion it depends on the website's focus (IE - Content).
IF you have an image page, and a good solid *.info is there, i may take it.. would not focus SEO on Info domains.
COM still takes google 1sts ;)
    I liked -carlg- comment.. though.

The .info extention is gaining a lot of momentum these days. It's the perfect extention for "informational" sites. I quite like this extention.

That is a really good way to put it Carl.

Exactly! Everyone knows there are plenty of examples of successful dot info sites. And it's not the extension that makes them popular or successfull but the content on them. With a good marketing and branding plan and strategy one could make it to the top without a problem.

The community sites and all the social networks prove that. Spreading information is what's on the move now.

@wog: Couldn't agree more! I'm all about content. My theory is that you could have a dn of j3erh.info (I just smashed my fingers... so sorry if this is actually someone's dn, haha!) and as long as the content and quality of the site is awesome, then theirs no difference between that dn or a myspace.com. Obviously, you'd have to market the hell out of j3erh.info over a strong name like "myspace" ...but the possibility is still there.

@html: thanks for your opinion I think I am going to get buying on some dns today... I'm flat broke but maybe I can make some $ of them :)
