With the lack of decent .com names available I'm just curious if you would rather have a .us.com or .biz/.info . Do you think there is a future for .us.com's? I noticed they've dropped in price quite a bit over the last year (although, they're still fairly expensive compared to most other domains).
I'm talking about the actual .us.com (like co.uk) extension. I'd prefer either the .us or .com separately but they're not available for the name I would like and already have branded. Personally, I'm not a fan of 2 part domains but wondering if the us.com might gain popularity in the future. Obviously, right now, there's no way to know for sure. I'm not a fan of .info's either and don't click through on the link if it's a .info because of the large amount of MFA's with .info extension.
I like .us, simply because it can be taken for the word "us" and be used creatively (think of del.icio.us)... .info's are great for wikis and informative sites. I do not know of any famous .info's on the web as of yet, though.
Sorry, I guess I'm not being very clear. I'm talking about www.domainname.us.com not www.domainname.us or www.domainname.com Obviously, the .us.com extension isn't popular right now but since it's dropping in price, maybe it will be in the future. Or, maybe this thread is a good indication of how confusing the domain extension really is.
This kind of mentality is stupid if you ask me. Sure, OK there are a ton of MFA's which are .info because the extension is cheaper to register, but to the average internet surfer, they have no clue about this and will click on the website if it interests them.
Why so sensitive? Are you one of the folks that bought up hundreds of .infos when they went on sale? Anyway, is it really that stupid??? Do a search in Google for "Web Directory" "Real Estate", "Mortgage", "Bank Loan", "Discount Travel" (I'm just throwing these out there) and you won't find a .info in the top 100 except the occasional sponsored link on the right side of the page. Do average internet surfers look past the first page of results (which is usually the default of 10). I've also never been to a .info site that I felt like I wanted to return to or bookmark. I'm sure with enough digging around, there are some good .info sites out there but for the most part, the "cons" outweigh the "pros" and I don't like wasting my time when I'm trying to find specific information online. Selling these domains for a dollar did a lot more harm than good. In fact, dropping the price on ALL domains did a lot more harm than good. I hated the days of $80 .coms but I remember how nice it was when the web was a lot less cluttered during the $30 .com days.
Have you considered these terms are very competitive and as you would know Google favors more established sites. .info is newer so of course you won't find as many at the top of the SERP's.
I don't think they should be used unless you really need the name, they're not a very attrative domain.
yeah, I've decided against it. Now I just need to figure out how to talk down the price that the domain squatter is asking for the domain I want.
I would go with .us and .info before .biz..both extensions are showing increase in popularity..if you're domain is related to something inside the usa I would recommend going the .us route..if it's something triggered to customers or visitors globaly, I would suggest going with .info
