If you are asking about online marketing, then Pay Per Click, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Advertising, Blogging & Online Classified Advertisements are the best ways.
That's some good ones there James. Was throwing it up for discussion. Ideally, would be nice for us to share what is most effective for each of us. I'd say which method used very much depends on the marketing client's requirements at the time. Pay Per Click is great because it removes a lot of the ambiguity in online marketing. You can often bus a gut with producing high quality content, and it may take time to build the traffic you want. With PPC you get more control. Successful PPC is made up of these main factors: 1. Bidding on a sufficiently large number of relevant search phrases. 2. Bidding enough for each search phrase so that your text ad appears where it will be seen (for brand awareness) and clicked (to send the search engine user to your web site). 3. Constructing a highly targeted campaign. 4. Making the information on text ads as relevant as possible to increase visitor clicks (thus increasing targeted traffic). 5. Careful measurement and testing of results (key for me, as so much of marketing can feel like a blackbox). So these are some of problems web site owners and businesses face; how do I come up with 1000s of search phrases, how much should I bid for each search phrase, how do I construct a highly targeted campaign, how do I provide highly relevant information for searchers and how do I measure and test the whole thing?
First great topic and great info. shared! I use a wide variety of marketing for my businesses. I'm not going to repeat a lot of the stuff listed above but I'll share a few other methods that I have had measured success with. -Newsletter/email marketing -Postcards -Live Networking Events (local and national) -Speaking What's the old story Dan Kennedy used to say? When asked how to get a hundred new customers a month? His Answer- I don't know any ONE way of getting 100 new customers a month but I know a hundred ways to get a new customer a month and I use all of them. (paraphrasing)
I think the type of marketing you choose relies heavily on your expertise or lack of expertise on a particular subject. If you are a business owner for example, no one will know your business ins and outs better than you. The trick is trying to share this expertise with others. If you've hired a copywriting company, intern, or advertising firm to promote your company for you - make sure you know exactly what's being written. Though hiring a third party to do your marketing for you frees up your time to be devoted to other aspects of business, be sure to consider how qualified the individual or company is to be speaking on behalf of you. How do you want to be portrayed? How much time do you want to devote to marketing efforts? - HenryIgnition

I also love yahoo anwers and press releases, If you can get a good press release then you can say JACKPOT... Facebook is awesome for traffic too, but takes up alot of time spent on facebook...
the face of the martial arts industry changes all the time, and keeping up with what is working for other school owners is one way to stay ahead ..
May I also add in my comment that PPC is cost-effective and integrated social media marketing, a well enough investment.
