My main source of quality traffic is still the good ol' Google. Though overall it's only a small portion of my traffic generation, it's still the best on the block...

A few tips for on-page optimization for getting more Google hits:
    1. Make sure your title, meta keywords, and meta description contain the keywords you are targeting.
    2. Include a few instances of your keywords throughout the web page you are optimizing. Include these words in h1, b, strong, em, and/or a tags when possible.
    3. Include images with the ALT attributes set as the targeted keywords.

Oh, regarding off-page optimization, try the following:
    1. Submit a newsworthy (ie: news-styled) article to a web article site. This is a great way to jump to the top of Google News. Although this isn't the regular Google search engine area, it will bring visitors in from the Google News, which I have found to be pretty effective. Note: You must make the article a generalization about the industry and cannot sound like a sales letter. You will see instant results within the next few days.
    2. Interact with the social bookmarking network, and offer members the opportunity to bookmark your site.
    3. Find related non-competitive websites in Google, and send them an email requesting a link exchange. Be sure to ask that they hyperlink to the correct url, using the specific keywords you are targeting.
    4. Find out where your competitors are getting links from by finding one and typing this into google's engine: "link:www.competitorsite.com". This will show you a list of websites that your competitor is linking to. Contact these website owners also for an opportunity to exchange links.

You didn't mention about your product/service offering.Anyway if you want immediate increase in web traffic the prefer mostly social media marketing. SEO will also do work but it will take time to increase the traffic.

    Hello Dilmando,

too bad you didnt mention what types of websites do you run into. I think when we are getting traffic from such a Social networking sites its difficult to check that our websites visitors is the correct visitors. Maybe if we are run into some news or entertainment websites thats maybe a good idea to promote our websites there. But how if we are run some business websites ?

I also have some difficulties to finds a lot of traffics ... i'm still work hard for this ...registering to many directories ... registering in many forums ... etc.

maybe you can do this too ^_^,

    warmest regards,

as long as you are not "spammy" and offer something the follower might be interested in, you should/can convert.

Use the power of web2.0 sites like squidoo, hubpages. Then forum posting, digg. If you manage to get your story on front page of digg, then you are sure to get some rush of traffic from there.

Search engines are the main source of traffic for my sites and I suggest, you also concentrate more on organic traffic as its the most targeted traffic that we can get. Your site is new so you will have to wait for some time before organic traffic will start to come. Meanwhile, you can do little bit of SEO which will help you get more organic traffic.

Unlike the others here, I want more than just a few measely hits a day, and without the high bounce rate, that is associated with search engines, signatures and usually social networks, so all my traffic comes from ads and word of mouth.
