My CTR is a bit lower than your's. I am at over 200 clicks a day, though.

If I can somehow get my CTR up to 5%, that would kick ass.

That's pretty good for a message board. I was thinking message boards got around .25% or something.

    blogger01, I have 2*yours CTR,
Here are some tips to highest CTR

1 - Test multiples layout and positions
2 - Test multiples layout and positions
3 - Test multiples layout and positions
4 - Imagine that your pages have 0 ads, where will you (actually it's you visitor) click first, you ads should go there.
5 - avoid borders on white background
6 - avoid too much ads, you will have high CTR but visitors won't come back and click again on your ads.
    7 - 332*288, 728*90 and 120*600 are the best ad formats.
8 - Textual ads are better than image ads
9 - Use blue for title and black for urls and text (+ tips #5)
10 - Read other people stats (found at google, sitepoint auctions...)
    11 - Read DP

It's against the Adsense TOS to reveal your CTR.

It's hard for us to help you improve your CTR if we don't see your site.

CTR highly depends on the way you have placed your ads. it should attract visitors. though yours looks very low to me. should be around 10-20%. you could go for optimization tips offered by google.

2% is not too high or too long.

The new changes I made to my site caused my CTR to lower a bit, but the CPC went up considerably.

    Focus on total earnings instead.

The highest that it is without you doing anything counter to TOS/Policies.

CTR of 38% and everything legal is fine.
CTR of 0.20% and you're cheating and everything will NOT be fine.

it's quite easy to reach 10% CTR on a site with a non-web-technical audience with a good ad placement.
