    Hey guys,

I am just curious about what other people have to share about SEO - what's your best tip about SEO?

    I'll start first:

The keyword research is the most important part. Get this thing wrong and you will not be able to rank even in a period of million years :)

I use Market Samurai for that.

You are right. Keyword research is the first step and getting ranked for that keywords is the major part. I suggest you to start ranking for low competition keywords first and then medium competition keywords. Later on, you can rank for the high competition keywords. So right SEO makes the keywords get ranked in Google well.

Content and backlinks. Two influencing factors to get a good PR in the search engine. The more you can get high page ranked links, the better your rank would be.

Well, the most important think is definitely keyword research. If you do you wrong, there is no point in trying to rank high. But if you have a good keyword, than I'd say quality backlinks. And I mean the most valuable links + a lot of content.

I agree, relevance is what really counts with Google. After all, they're in the business of returning the "most relevant" results for a given search term. So, you need to start with relevant keywords that have a decent number of searches rather than targeting keywords solely based on traffic potential.

Of course, content is important, also trusted links, right on-page optimization, page relevance to promoted keywords and so many other factors... ;) as for me, the first rule - do all slowly, step by step and you'll be happy with first page ranking ))
And what are you thinking about links from Google News sites (how them affect ranking)?

Keyword and backlinks. IMHO, people give "qualtiy content" way too much credit. I use to play the SEO game and that's all it is - a game. When doing research, I don't know how many times I've seen sites that were ranked number and had GARBAGE for content (or hardly any content at all); however, they had bazillion backlinks. So when people say content - I'm not convinced.

For ranking up of specific keywords I would prefer you submissions in free web directories and if possible and you want quick results then submitting in paid web directories is of great importance.

Part of Google's ranking algorithm is definitely text matching. If your page is deemed a relevant match to the key word/phrase someone types, Google takes that into consideration. When looking for KWs Google gives weight to the title tag. You also want to have that KW within the first few lines of text on your page. Also aim for KW density of 6-10% of your content; don’t go overboard.

Then of course there’s Google’s secret pagerank system. As others have mentioned, have your KW in links that are pointing back to your site, ideally sites with high PR & low number of outbound links from their site (gives you more link credit). You could also try listing your site in a web directory such as Dmoz.org or Yahoo or other big name directories.

Finally, never trust an SEO “guru” who promises guaranteed ranking. Google can’t be bought like that. ;) They’re all about providing the best, most relevant results to the end user.

Ensure that your content is unique, and isn't just a re-worded copy of someone else's work, Google are getting tighter with their algorithms
