The problem with offline advertising is that it's not flexible. If you make a mistake it can take a lot of time or money to get it done like it should be done.

As for me, it would be the problem to figure out which marketing campaign actually works and bring results.

You can "key" ads / coupons with unique codes or phone/ fax numbers to figure out where the sales or leads are coming from.

The main problem is finding what's truly going to drive results and traffic.....before going broke. Lol It's really frustrating to put so much effort into a campaign only to find out that it's pretty much useless in the end.

But it takes a lot more time/resources to do this then to do it online.

It depends on what you sell. Off course offline marketing is not a waste of time and money for all products.

There are also most of the time much more customers to reach offline then online.

for me offline marketing is crappy as I live in an asian country where people are not used to blogs and internet marketing (i am a blogger by profession) in general. so offline marketing is not only difficult - its impossible for me. Also it can get a bit expensive.

Time, that's my biggest complaint. You don't know the results of your marketing campaign for a while. I've had offline marketing campaigns that I thought were total failures only to have people banging down my doors 2 months later. There is no consistency and just when you think your idea was a flop, here come the floods of people.

offline marketing is 10 times more effective, cheaper and brings 100 times more results. when you compare apples to apples in my opinion.

GOOD internet advertising, takes the same amount of effort as GOOD offline advertising.

People will say things like...oh but i can get clicks from google for 10¢!

And I say I can mail a flyer to someones house for 5¢

Both of them require you to have a lot of people see your ad before you make money.

Its not WHERE you advertise but HOW you advertise.

Most people incorrectly advertise offline and online, and therefore have a small ROI

anything that does well with online advertisting will do better with offline advertising if done properly.

But NO BUSINESS should advertise exclusively online or offline. It's best to have a good mix of both.

I have been marketing online since BEFORE there was a world wide web (BBS/online services) and advertising in general for over 20 years. I also use the methods of the #1 marketer in History.

Now if you are just a "sales person" (mlm, affiliate etc) then it doesnt make much difference, and you might get away with online only or offline only, but if you are a true business, you need both.

I am in an offline people to people campaign right now that is excellent for income. No product or website to
promote, just people telling others about the opportunity and that is the only way it is advertised. No internet marketing done, no middle man, and no payment processors. Pm me if you are interested in adding something
else to your portfolio. It is only for USA right now.

I wouldn't say 10 times harder, but it is definitely harder. With online marketing, it is cheaper, and it is much easier to put your ad in front of a potential customer's face.

a classified ad can be placed for a few dollars to run the next day in print (and immediately online) with one 3-minute phone call.

What's hard about dialing a number and talking?

    whats expensive about that?

again its about knowing HOW to market.

Only those who have not been educated find marketing expensive...or difficult

    my 2¢

#1 - Offline isn't automated, so tracking is manual. Of course, you can direct people to a web site but always have to provide manual response mechanisms

#2 - Almost everything about offline costs money. Online you can dilute your ad costs with free promotion techniques

#3 - It takes longer. Some things take a while online (e.g. waiting for articles to be approved). But most things happen straight away

#4 - You can't change it once it's done. If you print 5,000 fliers and then find an error, you either live with it wear the cost of replacement. Web content is real time (apart from the lead time on article marketing of course), so is easy to change

    Hi,

general problem is about delayed payments. I use for instance tradedoubler.com, ebay is not paying for 5 months.

Mind if I disagree, and help dispel some of the myths of offline marketing?

Bottom line, neither is "better", both have pros and cons...and to be effective, one must understand HOW to do it.

If it doesnt work, 90% of the time the problem is with the advertiser and not the vehicle - the other 10% would be because its a scam (Like HYIP or SafeLists).
