They might be backing up or restoring there db's or might be server changes or db failure.

Yep I am getting the same thing too. I have had a a new pm pop up 5,000 times.

Same here. Plus I have a notification through email that I got a new PM, but it is not showing up. So i just sent the person a new PM rather than responding, and it's not showing up in my sent messages either.

Weird...
