no way you will get typein traffic with a hyphen.

    .net is much better.

Keep telling yourself that when I buy the-worst-website-url-in-the-world.com and fill it with amazing content and rank in the top 10 for all my keywords. Then buy a one word domain - .com - and fill it with crap content. Like most one word, three and four letter domains - all filled with crap for adsense revenue.

Our other company, online-garden-centre.com got traffic before it was indexed and even before it had any content!

I'd go with trying to find a revised name and stick with the .com - you'll be happy you did later.

    com with hyphen is better.
even better is unique name for which you own both hyphen and non-hyphen version.

    but definetly .com

oftentimes I would forget about .net part and hit ctrl-enter automatically.
I think with .net you'll loose customers.

If both are available to register, simply redirect the .net to the hypen.com.

The issue changes whether you are talking about a company website or a content website. Company sites are always better off with a .com, in my opinion anyway. Regardless if there is a dash. they should also buy the related .net with and without the dash and eventually look to buy the .com without the dash.

For content sites, content is king there ;)

I won't read every post but I would never build a serious website brand on anything than a dot com or a very strong alternative like a small generic .net. Hypens would not be used either unless it was some sexy creative way of the brand name...
