I mean, it's basically a moronic service, isn't it? So, I've been looking at twitter boom lately, all those scripts, sites and similar. What's the business model behind it? Anyone has one "twitter" site perhaps? I'm not looking into anyones secret, but simple illustrations of common business concept from fellow webmasters would be appreciated.
Basically it is all about finding potential clients and networking with other people in your field. Twitter is so large nowadays, you can really talk to people who are interested in what you are selling/doing. That's the benefit. That's what seperates it from Facebook and MySpace where generally your only audience is your friends and family the majority of the time.
Well, not in that way, sorry I ment - what possible web business can you make related to websites using twitter and having 160 or something letters to write. PHPGator's point of view makes sense, though. I was not aware of such difference. Still, why so much blogs and various scripts related to followers?
When it comes to selling something, very. But the whole thing is kinda moronic, if you think about it. It's trying to sell something. That question had to be asked? Or did I misunderstand the question? There are no "secrets," because twitter doesn't work for the average Joe and his site. Period. They are sheep, following one another. In addition, many are selling "scripts" to complete morons, like the ones on this board, for a fast buck. Did I understand that question right?
Hmmm...I think twitter has a place but it can diffently be a big time waster if you think it's a great way to market your business. I hear once Google wave is released that it will eventually replace twitter unless they start adding new features that are unique and different. Gary
@ Perry Rose: Yeah, you got it right. All parts of my posts. I mean, thing is, let's observe this through social network perspective: I do have a FB acc, many of us do, and twitter seems like mini social network. At least if we look at features. None of them. What? Post some status, and that's it. People like it cause, I guess - normal surfer likes popular stuff, and twitter is popular. I can use FB for some marketing via groups or similar, but not twitter, it seems. So, I have twitter acc too. And I follow 4 people, and 4 people follow me. Being at this forums, I see many of those books, scripts, la la la, and actually, unlike standard web mastering, programming and stuff I do, I don't know anything about twitter. So, instead of researching for ages and going out there to get me some followers I ask. And tiger here, thank you, tiger, has rounded it up completely: Not much of use is twitter for marketing. So, it's a quick buck: Quote: Still, why so much blogs and various scripts related to followers? They are sheep, following one another. In addition, many are selling "scripts" to complete morons, like the ones on this board, for a fast buck. Did I understand that question right? And that's what I wanted to hear. And you saved me from 10h of research to prove me my first hunch.
For shits n giggles, I played with twitter for a little bit. (My girlfriend rolled her eyes at me heh. She thinks twitter is a joke too, and she knows nothing about advertising/marketing.) My last entry I stated that I am no longer posting. To this day, I shit you not, I am STILL getting followers! lol Just about all of the dumbasses over there follow one another, JUST to follow one another. They do not read one another's pages.
It depends on how you promote. You need to build trust before you hit people with ads. Once you gain trust you can draw people to your site and then try to close a sale.
My perspective is that twitter is all about posting links so your followers can horde themselves to the website to see what your tweeting about haha. Why is it effective? Because the user's don't know what's behind the short url. They just have to click and see... Do I use twitter? Not really...
