what's up with msn.co.uk search?

One of my sites has dropped way off the radar on msn.co.uk for a certain term, yet it is still appearing on msn.com search fine. It's a uk based site. It's been like this for about a week. Has anyone else experienced this or know why this happans?

    cheers

no i'm hosted in the UK

    my url is pet-protection.co.uk

i am on page 9 on msn.com for the term pet insurance but nowhere on msn.co.uk - all other terms seem ok it's just this one. I did notice that msn.com and msn.co.uk were showing different cached days up until recently - all very weird to me.

Both are likely to use different datacenters. Try building links from other UK sites to help your UK rankings.

thanks for the tip - I think msn is going through some kind of change because I was on msn.co.uk up until about a week ago. Plus it's only that term that's fallen away on msn.co.uk.

I asked this question on another topic as well, have your pages indexed decreased?

As the index grows sites get bumped I think you know how it is out with the old in with the new thats msn's take in search.

I agree for the most part.

If you have links that are indexed well in msn you have good rankings.

If a new site comes by and optimizes better someone has to be bumped.

Seems fair I know if someone does something better than me I don't complain about it just deal with it. Come back bigger badder and stronger and make them pay for the insolence. :p

ex. I saw the search results double for the term " Car Auctions " last week or so from 1.5 million results to 3 . So obviously one could say the index doubled for that term.

Maybe the same goes for other terms and your site was affected being a part of the "Auto's Update"

no they have remained the same. In fact, everything is fine with msn for all searches on other pages. It's just that one search for the home page that has gone weird. As I say, it's there on msn.com but nowhere on msn.co.uk

    all very strange

Have you recently done something dramatic such as adding lots of backlinks to the site or so?

nope - done virtually nothing at all. It just vanished out of the one search term on msn.co.uk but actually rose on msn.com for the same term. msn.co.uk and msn.com were using different caches of the page last week but now they are the same. I'm sure it will return to normal but I guess I will just have to be patient.

I'm sure yours will get back to normal - just give it time. Mine has now dropped off the radar on msn.com and assumed its normal place on msn.co.uk as it should do. MSN is a real rollercoaster at the moment.

i attributed our drop from page 2, position 11 to way down the pages due to the larger index. Was at position 11 from 37 million results but recently the results returned are showing above 114million

and now my site has gone on the keyphrase in msn.co.uk again but reappeared in msn.com search for the same phrase - it's quite funny really. The good thing is each time it jumps around I seem to be getting nearer the top on this phrase so that's something I guess.

I am finding very similar things! Some days the site has 5000 indexed pages and other days just 1000. Very odd, maybe its something to do with the prep for live.com?

That's what I believe is going on. MSN has a lot of work to do before "Vista" goes live early next year and millions of IE7 browers have them as the default search engine.
