anyone have any idea why .info domains are so cheap for the first year's registration (it's initial registration), but when you want to renew the domain, it's just as pricey as a .com or a .net? i'd really like it if it wasn't like that and .infos stayed the same price. -.- just curious though! thanks in advanced for your replies!
Hi Hoppus, thanks for the question, we honorable keyboard warriors already answered you here, take a look: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1780363
Because of .com and .net domain extension limited now while lot of name is not available , that is why most of the registrar provide .info domain promotion at the 1st year. At the normal day , .info usually charges the same price with .com and .net. They take this promo as opportunities to push .info domain rather than .com which is really limited now.
It is a promotional offer from the registry, to increase the number of .info websites and registered domains.
Best answer! As that is exactly what it is; a registry subsidy for the first year. Depending on the source you check, .com is the most spammed TLD.
.info is usually cheaper then the rest of the TLDs is because previously, a lot of spam sites were made using .info TLD. Therefore, most of the registrars are now offering it with a very low price, atleast for the first year, in order to increase the sale of this badly reputed TLD.
Don't know why there is difference but I have .com and .info at same price from the beginning and the renewal price will be the same as starting.
