These types of 1-page web sites which seem to stretch to infinity and are always selling something...is there a name for them?

Some people call them landing pages, sales letter sites, brochure sites, etc.

Yes usually they are called sales letter pages. In fact, they can convert very well when selling the right product! Most of these sites sell information type products

There are many names depending on what aspect of its function you are talking about.... landing page is the first page vistors see so is applicable though a little false as there is only one page.

Sales letter pages or scammer sites are the two most common names we see given to these types of things

the long, the annoying, the things that were used way back in 1998 ........the dreaded SALES COPY

It used to work long ago for people wanting to sell stuff...I think they still do for a specific target

    audience.

These things annoy me to death. They're called squeeze pages and only god knows why they convert well, but apparently they do. There are a few ebooks on how to write, as well as templates.
