What's this link

I've been looking through several sites trying to bookmark places to learn C# and I came across this one site with links that I haven't seen before (I'm still a newbie and learning here so please bear with me). In the image below the two words circled are "Computer" and "small" and when I hover my mouse over each of them they bring up the floating menu that's shown. This is probably a rudimentary question, but what are they and what's their purpose?

There are a number of advertising techniques and programs that use this as a non-invasive way to place ads on their page. It is called in-text advertising. Rather than have things like Google ads stuck in everywhere the ads only pop up if you mouse over the selected words.

The one's in your example come from www.vibrantmedia.com. I have seen several companies that offer this service. A search for "in-text advertising" should reveal a bunch more.

Hey, no need to apologize, we all were newbies once upon a time!

    Cheers! :D
