I need to buy a new dvd player, and my friend says he has one that you can just copy .avi files to the cd and it plays in the dvd, without converting. But it dont know what that kind of dvd player is called? Is it called divx? Help please..
Yeah it's needs to be Divx compatible.. Lots of them are now anyway. I have 3 standalone DVD players and all of them will play DivX..
You're probably best off asking in the store. They'll show you which ones they have, and which ones play most formats. However, I'm using an external hard drive which you can connect to the TV and it plays nearly everything. And you don't have to burn the movies. It's not too expensive either. I'd have a look for that instead.
You can play DIVX files without converting anything. Check the specs of your DVD player before buying. I have my SONY Home Theater System which can play divx files and cost me INR 15,000 ($392).
This is what I have. (Woxter I-cube 35 X-Div XP Pro) But there are a LOT of these on the market now. Just ask in your store. I paid around $150 and it has 500 GB. You can watch photos, listen to MP3s, and watch videos of course. Plays nearly all video files I have.
