What's the worst drop you ever experienced?

I was listed in google 1st page and now I'm on the top of the 3rd page. How could a site drop so fast in a matter of 3 weeks? It was a slow but steady decline down.

Was it because of the reciprocating links on my site? www.towercodes.com

I tinkered with the site to try and optimize it. On the inner pages, you'll notice the meta tags, keywords, description, etc. Does anyone know if this negatively effected the ranking of my site?

Maybe if I reverted back to the way it was before, it'll climb back up?

Also, I was adding different content on the inner pages, but it's not viewable to any user unless you knew where to look for it. Does this effect google's ranking as well if it's not consistent to what your site is about?

For example, you could have site that targets autos enthusiants, but on one page, you could write alot of content about boats. Will this effect your ranking on google?

I have been on the first page for a term that got over 500 a day. Then I messed up my server and part of my network of sites went down and I dropped off the map..

i had a few sites ranking in the top 10 which got magically erased from the index. Thats a pretty big drop, often reffered to as a ban :D

I once had a well-ranking website about the local town I live in. It's a community website with business reviews, event calendar, and other localized information. Unique content.

Was going up and down between page 1 and 2 of the SERPS for the main keywords. The jagger update took it down and it dropped down to Never-Never-Land of Google. All pages are still in the index - some are now supplemental though (but that happened just now). I lost about 50% of my traffic.

In the early Big Daddy DCs the site came partially back, but now it disappeared again. I have no clue why. Never used Black Hat SEO techniques and the site is around since 2002/2003. The site is also listed in DMOZ.

I used the re-inclusion requests as well as all other known ways to inquire about a site to Google, but nothing. :(

Building link popularity? What's the best method for this? Just link exchanges? If this is the way you build link popularity, then I've in this forum that that could be a 'bad' thing. Google will realize that it's just a link exchange and not really put much weight on this and too many of these link exchanges can hurt you.
