Why would a regular visitor use Google's cache? I think most non-webmasters do not know it excists.

Isn't this something only be used by webmasters?

Content changes a lot - and when a website indexed a certain page with a certain someone on it, it may have changed by the time you find it. So, you can view the cached version to see what Google's crawler saw.

I know and you know this. But 99% of Google users are not webmasters and probably don't use / know the Google cache function.

The point is, if the above is the case, visitors on my site from the cache are probably webmasters ?

When a site is digged or slashdoted, Cached pages come useful

The only time I use the cache is if when I visit a page it is 404ing me, or perhaps I am getting redirected elsewhere. If the description text was interesting to me, but the page doesn't work, that's where I'll go.

I'm sure it's used more frequently than you think. Especially with dynamic sites where the content changes on a regular basis - which is more and more common. I've watched a few non-technical people hit the back button and go for the cache on more than one occasion.

I know some will use it, but my guess is, over 90 is not aware of Google cache. Same for backlinks. Who cares. Only webmasters.
Most don't know this feature. And most of the time the new page is better / more updated so why visit old stuff.
For me, I never use Gache (new word).

    Uses of cache

    - To read an older version containing the info you needed but couldn't find anymore in the newer version
    - To read a webpage that is presently giving you a 404 or any other kind of error.

    - if you are looking for specfic terms or words, then choosing cache helps as the words you used in the initial search will be highlighted on the cached page

this saves loads of time in research - you can quickly scan for the terms you searched for, as opposed to having to read through loads of irrelevant stuff

If a site is responding really slowly I'll always just use the Cached page.

well, in some places (work, library, school) some pages are not allowed because they have some filtering, and google cache is a good way to avoid those filters ;-) because google is allowed almost everywhere.

Precisely. For that reason I use the cached page often.

    1) Cache is often older then the new page
    2) You can use edit > search of IE for searching a page
