    IMO it's a bad idea to add www in front of a subdomain. Looks dumb, more for a user to type, harder to remember, etc. Just a bad idea all around.

    forum.example.com would be my pick every time.

    www is kind of like a default subdomain so if you used forum.yoursite.com you would use it instead of a www

    If you have a subdomain, then you do not use the www.
