What's the secret to making CJ work?

I haven't had much luck with my limited experience using CJ affiliate products. I've created online stores, used miscellaneous links on applicable pages, but I'm not getting any clicks or conversions. I don't want to steal any trade secrets here, but those of you who are successful with CJ...what do you find are your bread and butter techniques to making money with the program. Hopefully some of us can learn from you pros on the topic. Thanks.

What are some of the CJ programs that you are using? Some inherently work better than others.

I recommend stay with the big name ones. eBay, HP, Apple etc. People buy from the big guys most often.

You can create as many stores and establish relationships with as many publishers as you want, but you would not get a single sale if your site is not getting targeted traffic. Relevant content and targeted traffic, preferably from SEs is the key to success with any network, not only with CJ.

Well for my golf related websites, I'm using the big golf stores...Golf Smith, Golf Galaxy, etc.

For my other sites, I have some big ones too like Buy.com

On my auto sites I have insurance and financing affiliates with Discover Card, AIG Insurance, Capital One auto finance.

My traffic is fairly well targeted, I guess I just need to get more of it.

If you are getting a lot of targeted traffic but no conversions you should consider changing what you are promoting. CJ has a lot of different affiliates to choose from.

Yes, it is really the key to success to find those that convert for your visitors/sites.

Yes, take a look at your performance reports to find out number of impressions, CTR etc. I check this very often to find out what is and isnt performing well for me. Whenever I add a new 'campaign' I watch it very closely for at least the first 5,000 impressions, if I dont see results I remove it.

Of course the commission level has a lot to do with it too. If the payoff is $100, for example, it may be acceptable to have a lower number of commissions than if it is $10. With a higher payout I might run it over 5,000 to test it but not much.

Sorry to sway out of topic abit.
What do you do if a merchant has rejected your application to promote their product?
How do you get them to approve?

You should start your own thread about that - you will get more responses. It isnt appropriate to change someone else's discussion.
